As caretakers, KSSLC will continue to nurture a safe space for sharing knowledge and community seeds to promote growth and learning grounded in our Rotinnonhsyon:ni values.
About The Seed Sanctuary
Kenhtè:ke Seed Sanctuary & Learning Centre (KSSLC) is an Indigenous-led organization based in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory dedicated to the rematriation, preservation, and regeneration of Indigenous seeds and food systems.
Founded in 2018, KSSLC stewards a living collection of more than 300 culturally significant vegetable, herb, and flower seed varieties. These seeds are not simply agricultural resources — they are living relatives that carry history, language, ceremony, and ancestral knowledge. Through careful regeneration, documentation, and sharing, we work to return seeds to Haudenosaunee communities and ensure their survival for future generations.
Our work is guided by Haudenosaunee teachings, elders, and community leadership. We engage youth, families, and knowledge keepers in seed saving, sustainable growing practices, intergenerational learning, and community outreach. By integrating Kanyen’kéha (Mohawk language) and culturally grounded agricultural knowledge into our programming, we reconnect people to land, identity, and responsibility.
KSSLC exists to strengthen Indigenous food sovereignty. We support community gardens, provide hands-on mentorship to youth, collaborate with regional partners, and promote climate-resilient, regenerative agricultural practices rooted in traditional knowledge.
As an Indigenous-governed organization, we are committed to restoring seed sovereignty, rebuilding intergenerational knowledge systems, and creating long-term stability for Indigenous-controlled food systems.
We envision thriving Haudenosaunee communities where seeds are returned home, knowledge is shared freely across generations, and food systems are self-determined and resilient.
